[Java » Action]: Playboy Games: Pool Party

Playboy Games: Pool Party

We reported that THQ Wireless has signed a deal to make Playboy mobile games earlier this year, but the publisher has just revealed more details about its first title under the deal, Playboy Games: Pool Party.
It's a collection of four mini-games, each set in the pool of the infamous Playboy Mansion, and each starring some suitably scantily-clad women (but they are clad – there's no full nudity, in case you were wondering).
The games include a bucking bronco, float jumping, Frisbee throwing and waterballoon hoops. They're all simple to play, with the game being aimed at as wide an audience as possible.
Customisation is also a big theme. The better you play the mini-games, the more accessories you unlock to give to your Playmates, changing their faces, hairstyles, bikinis, shoes, jewellery and other accoutrements.
The game has stylised cartoon graphics designed to be cheeky rather than sleazy, and there's even a pass-the-handset multiplayer mode so you can share the experience with your friends.
Playboy Games: Pool Party is due to bounce onto mobile screens next month, so click 'Track It!' for an alert when we review it, and feast your eyes on the all-new screenshots above in the meantime.

Big Game Safari

At the heart of Africa lies an untouched portion of the Savannah, fiercely guarded by the rarely seen Masai warriors who hold their land as sacred and the animals that live in them creatures of God. Unfortunately, civilization has reared its ugly head and the animals are now exposed to gangs of greedy poachers. You have been sent by the nature society, armed with a gun and a camera to document the wildlife and protect it from the poachers.
Instructions:
You are armed with a gun as well as a camera (use 0 key to toggle between gun and camera). Use the gun to shoot down poachers and use the camera to shoot images of animals. You will also encounter masai warriors. Do not shoot them either with a gun or a camera (they are camera shy)

[Java » Action]: Chuck Norris: Bring On The Pain

Chuck Norris: Bring On The Pain

In Chuck Norris: Bring on the Pain, players will be able to take on the role of the titular character as either Ranger Chuck or Commando Chuck, battling the combined Communist forces of former Cuban president Fidel Castro and North Korea's Chairman of the National Defense Commission Kim Jong-il.

Players will be able to use their handset's digital camera to take photos of their own faces (or of their friends') and insert the images into Bring On The Pain, replacing the heads of enemies in the game. Chuck Norris will be able to throw enemies right at the screen, punch down houses with his fists, or raze entire forests with his gun.

Development for the game came as a result of a partnership between Gameloft and Chuck Norris' exclusive business development firm, Brand Sense Partners. Based in Los Angeles and established in 2001, the consultancy "fosters growth in new categories of business for its clients by leveraging brand equity and other strategic assets."

[Java » Strategies]: Transformers G1 Awakening

Transformers G1 Awakening

The time has come, the Autobots and Decepticons are going to finish their war, once and for all, and nothing is going to stop them, unless you get a call from your mom.

“Transformers G1: Awakening” will be coming to cell phones later this year courtesy of mobile publisher Glu, and anyone with a compatible handset will have a chance to help Optimus Prime and the Autobots finish their fight against Megatron and the Decepticons.

This new “Transformers” game is inspired by the simplified turn-based strategy genre that the “Advance Wars” series started, and uses the original Generation One Transformers from the animated series, and not the Michael Bay blockbuster from last summer, as the basis for the storyline and art style.

The game unfolds on a grid-based playing field, where you control the movements and actions of the Autobots, as you try to complete the objective for the level and combat Decepticons. In one of the levels I saw, the player controlled Bumblebee as he was trying to capture a pylon for a bridge that was under the Decepticon’s control. In order to do so, he had to make his way to the pylon and capture it. Only Soundwave stood in his way.

Being a Transformer, Bumblebee had two methods of movement, either transformed as the car, or in robot form. If the player opts to move Bumblebee around the board in car form, then he can move a greater number of squares, as well as has increased armor, but should he have to do battle, his ability to attack is limited. However, if Bumblebee is transformed then he has a decreased amount of mobility, but he is ready to stage a full-on battle with the Decepticons. Each of the Autobots has their own strengths and weaknesses on the board and in battle, all of which are based on their history within the Transformers Universe.

Much like “Advance Wars” the combat is turn-based, but there is a slight twist. At the end of each turn the player has the option to transform. This adds another level of defensive strategy to the game; encouraging the player to take into consideration whether they are likely to be attacked or not. I was told the designers did this to really encourage as much transforming as possible.

When the Autobots were close enough to the Decepticons for there to be combat, the game cut away from the grid to show gorgeous full screen animations the Transformers battling. Transformers in adjacent squares can lend supporting fire , making it possible to have more than a one-on-one attack.

The game was demoed on a Nokia N95 Ngage handset and the graphics looked amazing. The cutaway battle scenes looked as if they were late PS1 quality 3D graphics, and to have something like that coming out of a cell phone is impressive. For anyone who has played any of the “Advance Wars” games the one handed keypad based controls should feel very comfortable.

King of zing

Here’s another puzzle mobile game, this time from the creators of Starship Troopers - Roughnecks mobile game. Ojom just released the King of Zing puzzle mobile game.

The King of Zing mobile game has a lot of levels that can keep you playing and challenged to the point you just don’t want to put your mobile phone down. It has simple graphics and the game speed is good. The Java mobile game has three game modes to play – survival, puzzle and arcade. In survival mode the objective is to solve as many puzzles as you can with the time limit, moves and only one rubber ball. The arcade mode is all about getting high points by collecting all items in a level at the fewest moves in the shortest time. While in puzzle mode, you get your chance to solve all the 250 puzzles in four levels of difficulty.

The objective of the game is quite simple. Using a bouncing ball, which you control using your mobile phone’s keypad, you must use the square blocks on the screen as a landing zone to find the right path to a red flag. Reaching the red flag brings you to the next level which is more or less a notch harder than the previous.

The mobile game can provide you with hours of enjoyment trying to solve all the puzzles alone. You can even try it with your friends to take turns in solving all the 250 puzzles.
